A clinical trial from the Dept. of Pediatrics, University of Turin, Italy has successfully demonstrated that Red Yeast Rice is “effective, safe and well tolerated” in treating children with hypercholesterolemic (AKA – very high cholesterol).
There are many reasons why a child (or adult) might have high cholesterol. Obesity, diet, diabetes and genetics are all shown to be causes. Regardless of the cause, this study was able to show that a Red Yeast Rice supplement had a significant impact in lowering cholesterol levels.
“The dietary supplement, compared with the placebo, significantly reduced total cholesterol by 18.5% (p<0.001), LDL-C levels by 25.1% (p<0.001), and apolipoprotein B by 25.3% (p<0.001) when patients were considered as a whole group.”
In layman’s terms, these kids saw a nearly 20% decrease in their overall cholesterol levels, and a 25% decrease in their LDL (or bad cholesterol) levels. That’s incredible!
While this study was done on children, we know from other studies that adults receive the exact same results. If you’re dealing with high cholesterol, whether you’re on a statin yet or not, making Red Yeast Rice a part of your daily supplementation regimen is a must. Does it take the place of diet and exercise? Of course not, but that doesn’t change it’s effectiveness.
