Ask The Pharmacist Livestream with Joe DiMatteo – GUARD YOUR HEART PT.1 – May 31, 2014

Once again Joe has opened our eyes to the facts surrounding heart disease as he begins a discussion called “Guard Your Heart”.  In part I, he discusses the physical heart and the triggers of heart disease.  Joe begins with a basis definition of Atherosclerois, which he describes as nothing more than the thickening of the artery wall with plaque build up.  But more importantly, be begins to explain what happens to the layers of the arteries to cause the damage and possibly lead to a heart attack.  The intima lining of the blood vessel wall is where the damage occurs that causes the problems in the process of atherosclerosis and ultimately heart disease and even heart “attacks”.  The body’s method of repair causes these problems as well.

In Guard Your Heart Part I, Joe describes the following causes that can damage the intima lining; Insulin Resistance, Low Nitric Oxide levels, Impaired Repair, High Homocysteine Levels, and Heavy Metals to name most of them.  He discusses the utmost importance of having Homocysteine,Vitamin D,and C Reactive Protein (CRP) levels done in addition to a cholesterol level.  He states “You could have a relatively normal cholesterol level and a high lipoprotein A, Homocysteine and C Reactive Protein level and be a sitting duck for a heart attack regardless of your cholesterol level”.  He also states the “quality forms of Buffered C, Omegas, Resveratrol, and Perfect E can protect Cardiovascular Health”.
