Researchers reported in October 2014 that a higher Omega-3 fatty acid index is associated with increased insulin sensitivity and improved metabolic profile in overweight men. The AHA states that metabolic syndrome affects approximately 34% of American adults. In this study, researchers evaluated 47 overweight men with an average age of 46.5 years. Increasing Omega-3 index was associated with higher insulin sensitivity and disposition index and lower CRP levels. This is another benefit of Omega-3 fatty acids.
