Cortisol and Your Brain

A recent study was done using subjects average age of 76 who did not have dementia.  They were assessed via MRI for brain volume in relationship to their saliva cortisol levels.  “Higher levels of cortisol in evening saliva is linked to smaller total brain volume.”  “In contrast, higher levels of morning cortisol associated with slightly greater normal white matter volume and better processing speed and executive functioning
